The Assignment

Summer Reading for Incoming Grade 7 Please Note: In our end of year meetings, your teachers have discussed and decided to make a change to the summer reading requirement that we introduced to students the last week of school.   Please follow the instructions below for the assignment.

1. Students are required to read a total of four books in summer.  Students will respond to each of the four books they read by completing an assignment index card for each of the four books. (See Chart below.)

2. One of the four books should be from the Tried and True Category in the genre chart below.

3. The second and third  books can be taken from any genre category on the attached list.

4. The fourth book is a book of your choice. It could be from the list, or not, and it could be in graphic format.

5. Only one of the four books you read may be in graphic novel format.

Assignment for Index Cards for each book

  •  For each of the four books you read this summer, record a response from the colorful chart below on a 4 X 6 index card. There are nine choices of responses. Please choose a different response for each of the four books you read.
  • On one side of the index card write your name, grade and the title and author of the book. On the other side of the index card write your response.  Please choose a different form of response for each of the four cards.
  •  Bring the four index cards to school on the first day of classes in September.  Please scroll down to the book lists below for choices.
