This link will take you to a wall of book titles which may be of interest to rising 9th grade students wishing to read books above middle school level.

The Michael L. Printz Award annually honors the best book written for teens, based entirely on its literary merit, each year. In addition, the Printz Committee names up to four honor books, which also represent the best writing in young adult literature.

The Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association, puts out a top 10 fiction list each year for teens.

YALSA also has an award for outstanding non-fiction. This list also include a link see all of the nominees for 2017.
