The PDS Libraries subscribe to online resources to which students have access through the LS Library website. We want our students to have access to the best, most accurate information possible so they don’t have to spend time sifting through websites with misinformation and bias. Anybody can post anything on the web, but that doesn’t make it accurate. In the pre-Internet world, students got information from books and encyclopedias, which had editors and specialists to check facts. Wikipedia can be useful, but it is free and anyone can add to or edit it, so we can’t be sure it’s reliable. Since there are so many results from an online search, teaching students to websites becomes so important, adding to the amount of time needed to find needed information. We subscribe to online encyclopedias and databases because they, like the books they replace, are screened for bias and accuracy, saving our students time and delivering quality information!
