US Recommended Reading List

This recommended reading list includes recommendations from Upper School students and teachers. If you would like to suggest an addition to the list, send a brief review to klatham@pds.org.

We ask that all Upper School students read at least four books over the summer, including any books required for English class. Sometimes a course in another academic department may also require a book, which can count as one of a student's four summer books. We hope that students will choose their remaining summer book(s) from the list provided here because we feel that these books are of especially high interest and quality. In many cases, these books supplement and provide interesting connections with books that students will encounter in their courses. While it is not necessary to keep a detailed reading log, we recommend that students keep a list of their summer reading with a brief, informal summary of each book, as they will be asked to account for their summer reading in their English classes.
